Zach Galifianakis has a new movie this week, but I'm not sure if it's for everyone. Still, I loved it, and so it's this weeks pick. Also this week, Watchmen and Coraline in 3D!!
NEW RELEASES OF NOTE FOR THE WEEK OF JULY 21, 2009!!!!
Visoneers (D:Jared Drake, 2008) This is a briliant movie. But it's not anything like what you'd think it would be. It's a surreal satire of modern American life.Zach Galifianakis plays it straight, and I can imagine it disappointing some of his fans. But I found it utterly brilliant. It's a bit along the lines of Gilliam's "Brazil", except with a tiny budget and a bit more strange. I wasn't sure what was really going on for the 1st 15 minutes, not knowing anything about the film. There are some sublimely humorous moments, but I'm warning you, it's not the usual humor that you'd think would be coming from Zach Galifianakis. It's very subtle. I highly suggest this, but I will give you a warning that it's a very weird and cerebral film.
Coraline (D:Henry Selick, 2009) I saw this movie in the theater, and it was wonderful. Really wonderful. It's in this week, and it comes with 3D glasses. Now, I'm a HUGE fan of 3D in the theater and I'm a bit dubious when it comes to it's television equavalent. Luckily, this is a good enough, and beautifully done, film. Anything Neil Gaiman has a hand in is a safe bet.
Watchmen (D:Zach Snyder, 2009) This one will be super hot this week. If you're totally dying to see it this week, I suggest calling our store before noon and getting us to hold it. I was a fan of the graphic novel for ten years, at least. It was somewhat loyal to the original comic, maybe to a fault. And still, there were lots of little changes. Well, nerdy nit-picking aside, This is one LONGGGGG movie. Love it or hate it, it's probably something you'll end up seeing. If you're on this website reading this, I'd wager you've all ready seen it. I predict a sequel.
