People who make children's movies should have a large sign made up with
huge red letters that reads "IS THE MOVIE WE'RE MAKING APPROPRIATE FOR
CHILDREN?" and hang it over the door of their offices. Such a simple,
inexpensive expedient might have prevented this week's movie. Thousands
of children would have been spared the fear and sleepless nights this
film undoubtedly caused. While LOST IN THE DESERT is admittedly a
barrel of laughs for the kind of degenerate jobless scum who attend
Wednesday midnight screenings, it's no fun at all for kids. In fact
it's like a tanker truck full of Nightmare Fuel. It's the story of a 10
year old boy named Dirkie, seperated from his father in the scorching
desert and forced to wander alone with only his injured dog for
company. The movie (made by the child actor's real life father)
mercilessly piles horror upon horror as the child is forced to contend
with not only parental abandonment and the hostile elements but also
every other turn of the screw the sadistic writers could brainstorm.
We'll spare you the details but suffice to say, if it's terrifying to a
child, it's in there. Vicious, irresponsible and wrong. See you there!
