I Luv Video & The Alamo Ritz Present
Weird Wednesday: Coffy (Jack Hill, 1973)
Wednesday, May 20th - Midnight
ALWAYS FREE
I Luv Video Presents Weird Wednesday: COFFYRated R; 91min; Director:Jack Hill (1973)
Location: Alamo Downtown Pam Grier made her name in this, the greatest blaxploitation movie of all time. Her performance as the revenge-seeking sister who goes undercover as a hooker to destroy the mob made her an instant icon. She's devastating here - sexy, likable, funny and dangerous at the same time. She's awesome. Plus, director Jack Hill never so much as taps the breaks on the excitement level of this movie. Once the exposition is out of the way, it's like flaming hell-ride of death and bad blood for the next 70 minutes. If there was an Oscar for violence in films, it would be called the Coffy Award. I suspect there must have been some bribes or blackmail going on with the MPAA ratings board because there's no way you could submit this movie and get an R, it's just not possible. Do not miss the experience of seeing Coffy on the big screen with an amped-up, excited audience. You must be here for this or you're not cool anymore. (Lars) Weird Wednesday Facebook Page. |
