The Austin Polish Society& I Luv Video PresentThe Polish Film Series -Danton (Andrzej Wajda, 1983)Sunday, March 1st - 5 p.m. - FreeUnited States Art Authority (Behind Spider House)
Wajda's intimate but volatile chamber piece on the failures of radicalism & revolution may take place in the heady, violent years of the French Revolution, but this close-quarters, politically-charged film is a very thinly-veiled treatise on the ideological failures of Solidarity-era Poland, with a totally uncorked Gerard Depardieu's troublingly messianic Danton obviously a stand-in for that movement's charistmatic leader Lech Walesa. It's a great, powerful & often unexpectedly witty film from a cinematic master. Snack & wine pairings will be offered before, during & after the film.
The Polish Film Series shows the finest in Polish cinema on the first Sunday of each month. To see more on the event & on upcoming events, go to www.austinpolishsociety.org |
